My Squad Reunion After 44 years
Columbus, G.A. – Ft. Benning.
We hadn’t see each other together for 44years.
We were the only four original squad members from Weapons Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st. Battalion, 503rd. Infantry 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate) to return to the U.S. alive. Three of us were wounded.
We all met at Fort Benning, G.A. for the 173rd. Airborne Brigade Memorial Dedication Ceremony.
The Horse rotated back first. I had asked him to go see my mom. They met in Philadelphia, P.A. and had lunch together.
I was the second to rotate back. I went and visited with Preachers mother and sister in Cincinnati, Ohio when I was attending N.C.O. Academy at Ft. Knox, KN.
Mad Max rotated back third and Preacher last after he extended his tour of duty.

It was an amazing reunion. Memory’s we had suppressed and related to no one came out crystal clear when we talked about the war experiences we experienced together.
We were more than just a band of brothers. We were closer than close. We kept each other alive. We went through hell together. We shared our C-rations, our Salome from home, even our rice patty water with halizone tablets sweetened with pre-sweetened cool –aid sent from home.
We sat down and talked for hours. The Horse was too sick to attend but he was right there with Mad Max, Preacher and myself on loudspeaker phone. We vowed to make it an annual event and we would have the next reunion at the home of the Horse if he was still unable to travel. God bless you my brothers. Health permitting and God willing we meet again next year.
