2 Down – 1 To Go

In a past article around this time last year I wrote an article about finding a squad member. I wrote that only four of us returned from Vietnam alive with three of us being wounded. I visited with James Price (Preacher) last year in Cincinnati , OH. It was the first time we saw each other since Vietnam 43 years ago. It was a double miracle that I located the other two recently.

I visited John Horsey the other day just outside Philadelphia, PA. He bunked next to me in base camp and I remembered his big smile and happy go lucky attitude. I mentioned this  to him when we meet and he reminded  me that it was only in base camp. That the smile came off every time we went out on another search and destroy operation. John was the only one out of the four of us who was lucky enough not to get wounded. He was also the first to rotate back home .We talked about our shared experiences in hell. We both look forward towards a re-union in the near future with all four of us in attendance.

I look forward to see my 3^rd. squad brother in Miami , Florida when I return to Florida in September .

We were more than a band of brothers.
We picked our C- Rations out of the same box.
We flew into battle on the same helicopter.
We saw the same brothers fall.
We dodged the same bullets ( most of the time )
We went through hell together.

God willing , we will all be together once again after 44 years. This time in a non- hostile environment . in the land of the free and the home of brave.
